On being a proud Filipino

I think it is great to be proud of one’s heritage. To take one’s heritage (Pinay mom) for granted is to take one’s self for granted. However, it really grinds my gears (Family Guy :) ) when a lot of my fellow Pinoys take the accomplishments of people who turn out to have Filipino blood. How many conversations do we really need listing people with Pinoy blood? So Tia Carerra has Filipino blood. Who cares? Does her having Filipino blood somehow make any other Filipino better? So Enrique Englesias has Filipino blood. Who cares? What really bothers me is these people who have gained some renown aren’t actually Filipino. They don’t hold a Filipino passport, nor will they give anything back to the Philippines. Calling them Filipino is like calling Conan O’brian an Irishman. Whats funny is the very same names come up with every conversation. The number of these “popular” Pinoys is countable. That doesn’t say much.

My point here is … be proud. But be proud of yourself, not because this person did that. Be proud … but stop with all this repetitive bragging of popular Pinoys. Pacquiao pwned Morales, but you aren’t any prettier. :)
On a lighter (World of Warcraft) note … We have gotten to Golemagg in Molten Core (MC). A little more than a month from starting MC runs and we have cleared 8 out of 10 bosses in MC. Ragnaros will go down soon.
