A new study by ISP network service CacheLogic suggests that file swappers around the world are converging on a new favorite technology, possibly in response to pressure by Hollywood studios.
This is very odd to me. Personally, I thought the death of the once very popular sharing site ShareReactor was a huge blow to eDonkey that the network has yet to recover from. I have moved mainly to Bit Torrent ever since. It is also a shame that the original eDonkey client is so littered with spyware. Alternative clients like Emule and EmulePlus have grown into great, mature clients over the years and may have helped the growth of the network. The popular client Shareaza also has support for eDonkey in addition to other P2P networks. There is no doubt that the eDonkey networks have grown over the years. It is common to see Razorback2 (an eDonkey server) with over 900+ thousand users and occasionally that userbase will grow to over a million. The eDonkey network has grown, but is it taking users away from Bit Torrent? The Anti-P2P companies have been watching the eDonkey network for as long, if not longer than Bit Torrent anyway, so switching to eDonkey to escape from their prying eyes is pretty much useless.
