Life Without the Xbox 360

For months I have been waiting for the Xbox 360. I kept up with the news. I kept up with the trailers and in-game cinematics. I kept up with all the hype. I kept up with all the criticism. But weeks after the release of the 360, I still do not have one. I stil have not even gone to my local WalMart to try an Xbox 360 out. Temptation is a very, very dangerous thing. Practicality overcame the hype.

I feel left out though. What am I really missing? The graphics? No … not really. The 360 has been praised of having PC quality graphics … but hey! I have a PC. Dolby audio? No … not really. I’ve had the same quality audio for a long time with my PC nor do I even have the option of cranking it up. HD? No … not really. There will be others that must have HD. There will be technical talk of what HD brings (and what it doesn’t), but this is my personal choice. I do not need HD. How about the 360 Media Center features? No … not really. With Xbox Media Center, I have had many of the features and connectivity with other devices on the network for a very long time.

What I am very jealous of is the new Xbox Live features. Online features are very important to me. When all the levels are complete, bosses killed, and secrets discovered, all there is left is online play. I can wait though … I must wait.

No question I envy the great looking games that came out with the 360, but when I eventually get my 360, those games will still be around. More games will be here. I am not missing anything. I am merely postponing the enjoyment while taking the most of the first Xbox. There are still great games coming out for the Xbox. The 360 for now has not made the first Xbox obsolete. For now though, back to World of Warcraft.

  • I feel the same temptation. I know it's smarter to wait out but I want one now. The thing is there's no point unless I get an HDTV and a Dolby surround sound system.

The Gamercard stuff looks amazing. By nature I'm really competitive, and this thing basically makes me want to play a game I might not otherwise have just so I can show off an achievement in it. So I think they really did well with this idea.

The marketplace is supposed to be awesome for demoes, trailers, etc.

Live is what will snatch away most of the marketshare from Sony.

    For now I wait...
